SPIRITUAL WARFARE

The Battle
The Enemy

Names for the Adversary

First Peter 5:8-9 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

James 4:7 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Battle in the mind

Colossians 3:15 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Hebrews 9:14 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

James 4:1-10 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures. You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: "He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us"? But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, "GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE." Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

Psalm 139:23 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts;

Romans 12:2 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Second Corinthians 10:3-5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

Testament of Benjamin 5:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)If you have a good mind, my children, then wicked men will be at peace with you. The reckless will reverence you and turn to good. The covetous will not only stop being greedy, but start giving to those who are afflicted. If you do well, the unclean spirits will flee from you. Even beasts will flee from you in dread. Darkness flees from those who reverence good works. When anyone injures a holy man, they repent because the holy man forgives him and holds his peace. If anyone betrays a righteous soul, the righteous man, through praying, may be humbled for a little while. Yet not long afterwards he appears far more glorious, as Joseph my brother did.

Testament of Benjamin 6:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)The mind of the good man is not under the power of the deceit of the spirit of Belial, for the angel of peace guides his soul. He does not gaze passionately on corruptible things, nor hoard riches for his own pleasure. He does not delight in pleasure, hurt his neighbor, pamper himself with food, or err in pride, for the Lord is his portion. The good mind does not dwell on the glory or dishonor of men. He does not practice guile, lying, fighting, or reviling. The Lord dwells with him and lights up his soul, and he rejoices with all men. The good mind is not hypocritical. It does not bless and curse, insult and honor, or spread sorrow and joy. It does not make peace and cause trouble, speak hypocritically and truthfully, or bring poverty and wealth. It only has one temperament: pure and uncorrupt, concerning all men. It has no trouble seeing and hearing the truth, for in everything the Lord watched his soul, and keeps his mind clean so that he will not be condemned by God and men. But every work of Belial is hypocritical, and cannot be straight.

Testament of Benjamin 8:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Therefore, my children, flee all wrong doing, envy, and hatred of family, and cleave to goodness and love. He who has a pure mind in love does not think about fornicating with a woman because he has not defilement in his heart, and the Spirit of God rests in him just as the sun is not defiled by shining over dung and mire, but rather it dries up both and drives away the stench. So also the pure mind, constrained among the defilements of the earth, rather edifies others and suffers no defilement itself.

Testament of Joseph 7:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)If anyone falls into the passion of a wicked desire, they become enslaved by it. She was so enslaved by her desire that she mistook any kind word from me as a sign that her wicked desire might soon be fulfilled.

Luke 11:33-36 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)"No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. "The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness. "Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness. "If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays."

How the battle is won

First John 4:4 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

Revelation 12:11 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)"And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.

Romans 8:26 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;

Testament of Asher 3:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Destroy the devil by your good works.

Testament of Benjamin 3:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)He who fears God and loves his neighbor cannot be afflicted by Belia's spirit of the air, being shielded by the fear of God. Neither can he be ruled over by the device of men or of beasts, for he is aided by the love of the Lord which he has towards his neighbor.

Testament of Joseph 9:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Not even in thoughts did I incline to her. For God loves those who in a den of darkness fast with chastity, rather than those who in secret chambers live delicately without restraint.

Testament of Levi 13:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Work righteousness, my children, upon the earth, that you may find treasure in heaven, and so good things in your souls. That you may find them in your life. For if you sow evil things, you will reap all the trouble and affliction.

Testament of Naphtali 3:2 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)If your mouth is silent and your heart is pure, you will be able to follow the will of God and resist the will of the devil.

Testament of Naphtali 8:2 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)If you work with what is good, my children, both men and angels will bless you. God will be glorified through you among the Gentiles, and the devil will flee from you. The wild beasts will fear you. And the angels will cling to you.

Testament of Simeon 5:2 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)I have all these things to make myself clear about the sin of your souls. If you forsake, envy and stubbornness, you will flourish like a rose, like the Cedars of Lebanon, and you'll be holy forever and we'll branch afar off.

Testament of Issachar 7:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)I am one hundred and twenty two years old and I have never committed a sin unto death. I have not known any woman except my wife. I never committed fornication, got drunk, or coveted anything that was my neighbors guile, never entered in my heart, nor did he lie ever pass through my lips. If any man grieved, I wept with him and I shared my bread with the poor. They never ate alone. I moved no landmark. In all my days I was godly and truthful. I loved the Lord with all my strength and every man, like they were among children. My children, if you do these things, every spirit of Belial will flee from you. Malicious men will not roll over and you will subject wild beast. God will be with walk among men, simplicity of heart.
Except for sins of ignorance as Zebulun mentions in Zebulun Section 1.

Types of Spirits

Mark 9:28-29 (ASV, American Standard Version)And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, How is it that we could not cast it out? And he said unto them, This kind can come out by nothing, save by prayer.

Seven spirits of YHVH

Isaiah 11:2 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

Seven spirits of error

First Corinthians 2:11-12 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God,

First Timothy 4:1 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,

John 6:61-63 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble? "What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before? "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

Proverbs 16:18 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.

Testament of Asher 6:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)My children, remember the commandments of the Lord. Single mindedly follow the truth, for the hypocrites received twofold punishment. Hate the spirits of error that strive against men. Keep the law of the Lord and do not practice evil with good. Practice only good and keep all of the commandments of the Lord. Conduct your lives by him and rest in him. Your actions will show if you are righteous and whom you follow: the angels of God were the angels of Satan. If the soul dies troubled, it is because it was tormented by the evil spirits it served through its lusts and evil works. If the soul dies, quietly and with joy, it is because God's peace has covered him in life.

Testament of Dan 5:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)My children, observe the commandments of the Lord and keep His law. Depart from anger, hate, and lying, and the Lord will dwell with you, and Belial will flee from you. Speak truth to each other and you will not fall into lust and confusion. Instead, you will have the peace of God and no war will prevail over you. Love the Lord and each other with a true heart all your life, for I know that in the last days you will depart from the Lord. And will provoke Levi unto anger, and will fight against Judah, but you will not prevail against them. An Angel of the Lord will guide them both, and by them Israel will stand. When you depart from the Lord, you will walk in all kinds of evil, working the abomination of going astray with ungodly women. The spirits of error will work in you with all malice. I've read in the book of Enoch the righteous that your Prince is Satan. All the spirits of fornication and pride will be subject unto Levi, but they will lay a snare for the sons of Levi to cause them to sin before the Lord. My sons will draw near unto Levi, and sin with them in all things. The sons of Judah will be covetous, plundering other men's goods like lions. Therefore, you will be led away with them to captivity, and there you will receive all the plagues of Egypt and all the malice of the Gentiles.

Testament of Issachar 4:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Instead, he waits for the will of God, and the spirits of error have no power against him. He does not allow his mind to be corrupted by lust, envy, jealousy, or greed. He walks in righteousness and sees everything in simplicity, not focusing on the malice from the heirs of the world. He does not learn to pervert any of the commandments of the Lord.

Testament of Judah 23:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)I am much grieved, my children, because you will sin against the Kingdom with lewdness, witchcraft, idolatry, and by seeking those who have familiar spirits. You will make your daughter singing girls in harlots for divinations and demons of error, and you will be mingled in gentile pollution.

Testament of Naphtali 3:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Nations went astray, deserted. The Lord changed their order in worship, stones and wood following, spirits of error.

Spirit of Divination

Acts 16:16-18 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)It happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave-girl having a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling. Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, "These men are bond-servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation." She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!" And it came out at that very moment.

Spirit of Jealousy

Testament of Judah 13:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)For since I also gloried that in wars the face of no beautiful woman ever deceived me , and unbraided Reuben my brother concerning Bilhah, the wife of my father, the spirits of jealousy and of fornication arrayed themselves within me, until I sinned with Bathshua the Canaanite, and Tamar who was espoused to my sons.

Spirit of Envy

Testament of Simeon 3:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)My children, guard yourselves against the deceit of envy. It takes over your mind so that you cannot eat, drink or do any good. Envy destroys the one who envies, but the one who is envied always flourishes. After praying and fasting, I realized envy is only overcome by the fear of God. If you flee to the Lord in envy ceases and your mind rests, you are able to sympathize with the one you are envied and become one of those who love Him.

Testament of Simeon 4:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Love each other and forsake envy because it ruins both the soul and body. It turns anger to war and puts you in a frenzy so that you cannot sleep. That destroys your wisdom, gnaws at your soul, stresses the body, and brings confusion. You actually begin to look like your body has been poisoned. Joseph was so good looking because he did not poison his body with wicked intentions. You can always see this in a person's face. My children, be righteous before God and you will find favor with God and men. Do not fornicate. It is the mother of all evils that separates you from God and pushes you towards Belisle. I have seen in the writing of Enoch that your sons will be corrupted by fornication and will attack Levi with the sword.

Spirit of Understanding

First Enoch 14:3 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)converse therewith and understand with the heart. As He has created and given to man the power of understanding the word of wisdom, so hath He created me also and given me the power of reprimanding

Spirit of Hatred

Testament of Gad 1:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)The spirit of hatred was in me, and I did not want to see or even hear Joseph.

Spirit of Anger

Testament of Dan 1:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)The record of the words of Dan, which he spoke to his sons in his last days. In the 125th year of his life, he called together his family and said listen to the words sons of Dan. I know in my heart that throughout my whole life God has been pleased with truth and just dealing. Lying in anger are evil because they teach man all kinds of wickedness. My children, I confess that in my heart I rejoice concerning the death of Joseph, a true and good man. I rejoiced at the selling of Joseph because our Father loved him more than us. I became jealous and vain because I was his son too. A satanic spirit caused me to hate Joseph so much I wanted to kill him with. Joseph gone, My love me in the way he did him. This spirit of anger so consumed me of nothing else but kill him. But the God of Jacob, our Father, kept him from me. I never found him alone. I thank God for not allowing it, or there would be two less tribes in Israel.

Spirit of Nature

First Enoch 60:15-22 (RHCV, R.H. Charles Version)For when the lightning lightens, the thunder utters its voice, and the spirit enforces a pause during the peal, and divides equally between them; for the treasury of their peals is like the sand, and each one of them as it peals is held in with a bridle, and turned back by the power of the spirit, and pushed forward according to the many quarters of the earth. And the spirit of the sea is masculine and strong, and according to the might of his strength he draws it back with a rein, and in like manner it is driven forward and disperses amid all the mountains of the earth. And the spirit of the hoar-frost is his own angel, and the spirit of the hail is a good angel. And the spirit of the snow has forsaken his chambers on account of his strength -There is a special spirit therein, and that which ascends from it is like smoke, and its name is frost. And the spirit of the mist is not united with them in their chambers, but it has a special chamber; for its course is glorious both in light and in darkness, and in winter and in summer, and in its chamber is an angel. And the spirit of the dew has its dwelling at the ends of the heaven, and is connected with the chambers of the rain, and its course is in winter and summer: and its clouds and the clouds of the mist are connected, and the one gives to the other. And when the spirit of the rain goes forth from its chamber, the angels come and open the chamber and lead it out, and when it is diffused over the whole earth it unites with the water on the earth. And whensoever it unites with the water on the earth . . . For the waters are for those who dwell on the earth; for they are nourishment for the earth from the Most High who is in heaven: therefore there is a measure for the rain, 22, and the angels take it in charge. And these things I saw towards the Garden of the Righteous.

Evil spirits linked to diseases, medicine & physical ailments

Demons can cause sickness & afflictions

People can have "Protection" and this "Protection" can be removed

Deuteronomy 28:15 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)"But it shall come about, if you do not obey the LORD your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:

Numbers 14:9 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)"Only do not rebel against the LORD; and do not fear the people of the land, for they will be our prey. Their protection has been removed from them, and the LORD is with us; do not fear them."

Second Thessalonians 3:3 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

Discerning (Testing) Spirits

First John 4:2-3 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.

First Kings 3:9 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)"So give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?"

Colossians 3:15 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
If something makes you feel uneasy or restless, it's worth taking a closer look and seeking clarity.

Isaiah 8:20 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn.

Matthew 7:16 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)"You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?

Proverbs 17:24 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Wisdom is in the presence of the one who has understanding, But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.

Educate Yourself

Proverbs 1:5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)A wise man will hear and increase in learning, And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel,

Practice Active Listening

James 1:19 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;

Ask Open-ended Questions

Proverbs 20:5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)A plan in the heart of a man is like deep water, But a man of understanding draws it out.

Develop Empathy

Romans 12:15 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

Observe Non-verbal Cues

Proverbs 20:12 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)The hearing ear and the seeing eye, The LORD has made both of them.

Trust YHVH's Word

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

Seek Feedback

Proverbs 15:22 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed.

Proverbs 19:20 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Listen to counsel and accept discipline, That you may be wise the rest of your days.

Reflect

Second Corinthians 13:5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test?

Stay Humble

Micah 6:8 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

Proverbs 11:2 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom.

Merciful

Testament of Benjamin 4:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)My children you know what happens to a godly man. Follow his compassion with a good mind, that you also may wear crowns of glory. The good man does not have a dark eye. He shows mercy to all men, even though they are sinners, even though the devise evil against him. So, he who does good overcomes the evil, being shielded by Him who is good.

Prayer and Meditation

Prayer & Meditation

How does God speak to us "in the spirit"?

The Spirit is in our conscience

Ability to cast out demons given to certain people

Casting out Demons

Can a person have more of one spirit and less of another?

First Corinthians 12:8-11 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

Romans 12:6-8 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Can a person "get more" of a particular spirit that they want?

First Corinthians 12:31 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way.

Hebrews 5:14 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

James 1:5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Proverbs 15:14 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)The mind of the intelligent seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on folly.

Proverbs 2:3-5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding; If you seek her as silver And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will discern the fear of the LORD And discover the knowledge of God.

Spirits brought on by outside substances

Ephesians 5:18 (NIV, New International Version)Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,

First Corinthians 6:10 (NIV, New International Version)nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21 (NIV, New International Version)The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 20:1 (NIV, New International Version)Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

Testament of Judah 16:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Therefore my children, observe moderation in wine, for it brings out four evils: lust, wrath, rioting, and greed.

Addiction

Ephesians 2:3 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

First Thessalonians 5:7-11 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.

Galatians 5:16-17 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

Majic & Sorcery
Divination & Soothsaying

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)"There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. "For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you.

Leviticus 19:26 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor practice divination or soothsaying.

Testament of Joseph 6:2 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)She sent me food sprinkled with enchantments. When the eunuch who brought it came, I looked up and beheld a terrible man, giving me with the dish a sword, and I perceived that her scheme was for the deception of my soul. When he had gone out, I wept. Nor did I eat any of her food. After one day she came to me and observed the food and said to me, 'What is this? Why have you not eaten the food?' I said to her, 'It is because you have filled it with death.'

The Didache 3:4 (G.C. Allen Translation)My child, be not an observer of birds [for divination] for it leads to idolatry; nor a charmer [enchanter], nor an astrologer, nor a purifier [a user of purifications or sin rituals], nor be thou willing to look on those things; for from all these is generated idolatry.

Darkness

First Thessalonians 5:4-5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness;

Mark 6:5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)And He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.

Matthew 13:58 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

Testament of Simeon 8:1 (RHCVKJ, R.H. Charles Translation, Edited by Ken Johnson, Th.D.)Simeon finished speaking and died, being one hundred and twenty years old. They laid him in a wooden coffin and took his remains to be buried in Hebron about the time of the Egyptian war with the Philistines. They did this secretly because the bones of Joseph and his brothers were guarded in the treasure House of Egypt, for the sorcerer's told them that when the bones just the Egypt, they would be such a great darkness throughout the all land that a man will not be able to see his brother even with a lamp.

Psalm 139:7-12 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me. If I say, "Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night," Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.
Think of our bodies as a house. When we are filled with the spirit, the Spirit is at home with us. If the Spirit is not in our house, we have an empty house, and evil spirits will enter that house. It's not enough to cast out demons, the house needs to be filled.

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Hebrews 12:4-11 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin; and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness. All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.

James 1:2-8 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

John 9:1-5 (NASB, New American Standard Bible)As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?" Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. "We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work. "While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world."
